Copywriter / Strategist

At Moncur, we specialize in tackling some of the most complex branding challenges for the most complex businesses. It’s our goal to help our clients sell more of what they do and to do that requires effective, beautiful communication. Getting the words right is of utmost importance.

The copywriter/strategist is responsible for crafting compelling content and strategies that fuel our clients’ success. This role entails being the researcher, the subject matter expert, the wordsmith, and the proofreader all in one. This mid-level position is key in defining many of the foundational elements of our clients’ brands, writing everything from short, punchy headlines to technical, long-form white papers to strategic brand communications—and everything in between. Print, digital—whatever the medium, the copywriter/strategist will write for it.

To be successful in this role, one must be an extraordinary writer, with complete command of the English language, as well as the ability to know when to bend the rules. He or she must adapt swiftly and seamlessly to our clients’ brands, able to communicate about complex subjects clearly and creatively—all with the clients’ goals in mind. The copywriter/strategist must have a thirst for knowledge, unfailing attention to detail, and a collaborative, positive attitude.

Direct Report: Content Lead

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and create content, from start to finish, for a variety of industry-leading companies in the manufacturing, construction, professional service, and technology industries
  • Develop content for a wide range of deliverables, including sales collateral, websites, digital marketing, strategic messaging decks, advertisements, news releases, and more
  • Specialize in strategic, technical, long-form content, with the ability to translate the work into creative, punchy, short-form content
  • Assist in managing the content on the websites we build, with attention to detail
  • Conduct research and participate in interviews with client stakeholders to build subject matter expertise
  • Support team in discovery processes, defining brand frameworks, and crafting brand and website architectures
  • Seek to understand everything you touch, including, but not limited to, the task at hand, the complexities of the client's business, tone/voice, style preferences, industry language, and more
  • Collaborate closely with members of the Creative, Technology, and Digital Marketing teams to support the development of client deliverables
  • Meticulously review and proofread all work to ensure complete accuracy, quality, and adherence to project requirements
  • Present your ideas clearly and articulately, with strategic reasoning to back up your decisions
  • Effectively balance multiple projects and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintain an ongoing awareness of current trends and best practices, as well as a commitment to your own personal growth and development

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of the English language and fluency in AP style
  • Understanding of best practices for writing across a variety of print and digital mediums, specifically within B2B
  • Ability to comprehend complex information and create clear communications with guidance
  • Strong research, writing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to participate effectively in interviews and presentations
  • Developing ability to identify key insights from client conversations
  • Ability to think creatively, and from the perspective of the target audience
  • Ability to take constructive critique when given and quickly adapt one’s approach
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and time-management skills
  • A continually professional and positive manner, with strong interpersonal skills

Our agency operates in a hybrid model, allowing the team to work at headquarters in Southfield, MI or from home. Fully remote employees must be able to:

  • Work EST hours. Our office hours are 8:30am – 5:00pm EST; work is done during these hours unless client needs/deadlines require otherwise.
  • Secure a stable home wi-fi/connectivity setup that supports virtual work/meetings.
  • Travel to HQ and/or client locations 3-4 times per year, in support of collaboration, team productivity, and client requirements. Travel and lodging expenses for required visits by fully remote employee will be covered by Moncur.
