In this reporting structure, you report to the Ambulatory Surgery Director of Nursing, and as the Outpatient PACU Charge Nurse you guide RN teammates across PreOp, Phase I/II PACU, and cross‑trained float staff. Your leadership is the hub for techs, unit coordinators, and materials partners, while anesthesia providers and surgeons look to you to keep the day moving. You collaborate with scheduling, sterile processing, and quality leaders so the Perianesthesia Nurse team stays ahead of every Procedure.
At this Outpatient Surgery Center, the Outpatient PACU Charge Nurse supports 3 operating rooms, 1 procedure room, and 8 PreOp/PACU bays, with about 500 procedures each month. You’ll feel the steady rhythm of spine and interventional pain cases, balanced with other specialties that keep the ASC PACU sharp and nimble. The energy is focused and supportive—skilled PACU Nurse peers, excellent anesthesiologists, and streamlined systems that help you deliver timely, individualized care.
In practice, you direct admissions, assignments, and discharges while guarding clinical standards: airway vigilance, hemodynamic stability, Aldrete scoring, pain and PONV control, and clear discharge teaching. As the Outpatient PACU Charge Nurse, you mentor staff, precept new team members, lead skills validations, and align education with CAPA, CAPN, and Certified Ambulatory PeriAnesthesia competencies. You manage staffing and scheduling, steward supplies, update protocols, support infection control, and contribute to budgets and quality dashboards. When the day demands it, you circulate, assist during Conscious Sedation, and respond swiftly to changes with calm, practiced judgment befitting a Registered Nurse leader.
